Avenance plc is one of the United Kingdom’s leading contract catering businesses. Their rateable value was based on an office unit rate of £270psm. Discussions took place in 2001 at a very early stage of the rating list and the Valuation Office were keen to support their level of value. Rating 2000 took a lead role in the discussions with the Valuation Office and by analysing a substantial amount of rents within the area were able to reduce Avenance’s assessment by over 30%.
